Free Health Insurance in Alabama

By on September 12th, 2013

Medicaid is a state-and-federal program that pays for medical and long-term care services for many people, including low-income pregnant women, children, certain people on Medicare, individuals with disabilities, and nursing home residents. You must meet certain income (and other) requirements to take advantage of Medicaid.

Under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), states had a choice about whether they want to expand Medicaid. Alabama chose not to expand Medicaid. It’s one of 26 states to do so.

There are 2 great ways to find out for sure whether you qualify for Medicaid.

  1. Contact Alabama’s Medicaid office. Or visit the Alabama Medicaid Website or call (800) 362-1504.
  2. You can also go to the federal marketplace and fill out the application form — if you qualify for Medicaid, they’ll help you enroll right there.
